Droitwich Road, Worcester, Worcestershire

Client:Ashfield Land Sector:Retail Services:Civil Engineering Link Design Lead:Robert Gill, Matt Clutton

Link was appointed by Ashfield Land to undertake the S278 design for the highway improvement works associated with a proposed Lidl store to be constructed on Droitwich Road, Worcester. The Link team took forward this scheme following the transport planning work undertaken by Link’s affiliate company mode transport planning. This relationship was beneficial in understanding the background to the site and how the planning approved highway layout had been determined.

The works involved constructing a new bellmouth into the proposed Lidl car park, provision of a new bellmouth access/egress for the adjoining JVM Castings commercial unit and widening works to Droitwich Road to incorporate a new ghost right turn and removal of the existing bus lane. Link’s role was to undertake the detailed design of these highway works before taking them through the technical approval process with the highway authority.

This commission also included Link supporting the contractor on site with any technical issues during the construction process.

Key Features:

  • 2 new accesses
  • 1 new ghost right
  • 1 bus stop relocated
  • 11 new lighting columns
  • 8 new signs
